For its 9ᵗʰ participatory edition, the Orchestre du Rhin placed emotions at the very heart of its program. Throughout the season, singers and instrumentalists came together around works by 21st-century British composers: The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace by Karl Jenkins, Annelies by James Whitbourn in tribute to Anne Frank, Eternal Light by Howard Goodall, and Song of Songs by Patrick Hawes.
The musical journey opened with a medieval chant, a reminder that in all times and places, people have sung to connect with one another and to keep memory alive. From the universal figure of “the armed man” to the first major musical setting of Anne Frank’s Diary, and through a hymn of hope, each page invited participants to feel and share beyond differences.
With more than 700 participants gathered, the project showed that it is our humanity that binds us together, and that song and poetry can make both choirs and hearts beat to the same rhythm. After exploring the dialogue of cultures in 2024, the 2025 edition raised its voice for peace, culminating in a final quolibet interweaving Latin, Arabic, and Hebrew.
